What does GHRP-6 do? Benefits and evidence

A peptide studied in growth hormone tests and an experimental stroke combination.

Also called: Growth hormone-releasing hexapeptide, SKF-110679.

Growth hormone secretagogues (ghrelin receptor) · Ghrelin receptor agonist and growth hormone secretagogue.

GHRP-6 raises growth hormone and can also raise cortisol and prolactin. Most human studies were brief hormone tests. A 2026 phase 3 stroke trial of EGF plus GHRP-6 missed its main endpoint. Community users report strong hunger and water retention. Lasting muscle or recovery benefits of home injections remain unproven.

  • In small studies, an IV dose raised growth hormone in step with the dose; lasting benefits were not tested. (Studied in a trial)
  • Studied in people as a supervised test for growth hormone deficiency, alone or with a related hormone. (Studied in a trial)
  • People report much stronger hunger than with ipamorelin, and some use it on purpose to eat more. (Reported by users)

Uses in the sources

  • Studied for GH stimulation testing, alone and with GHRH. This does not establish a treatment dose. (Studied in a trial) (source)
  • Studied with EGF for acute ischemic stroke. The phase 3 trial missed its primary endpoint. (Studied in a trial) (source)
  • Published clinician use combined it with GHRP-2 and sermorelin; IGF-1 rose, but body-composition benefits were not measured. (Clinician-published) (source)
  • People use it to increase hunger. Controlled appetite outcomes specific to GHRP-6 were not found. (Reported by users) (source)
