Cortagen side effects and risks
A four-amino-acid brain peptide backed mainly by animal work and unverified patent claims.
Also called: Kortagen, AEDP, Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro.
Khavinson bioregulator peptides · Synthetic brain-cortex tetrapeptide.
Reported side effects
- Allergic or injection-related reactions: No compound specific rate is established. These are general risks of unapproved peptide products., serious. Stop use and seek care for a spreading reaction or signs of infection. (source)
- Other short- and long-term effects: No reliable adverse event denominator is available., moderate. Report new symptoms and the exact product, dose, route and timing. (source)
- Scalp tingling: One online user reported tingling; causation and frequency are unknown., mild. New painful zaps, weakness or seizure-like symptoms need clinical assessment. (source)
Stop and get help if
- Trouble breathing, throat swelling, widespread hives or collapse: Call emergency services now; these may be signs of anaphylaxis.
- Fever with confusion, rapid breathing or a very painful spreading injection-site infection: Get emergency care now; severe infection can progress quickly.
- Sudden face droop, one-sided weakness, speech trouble or vision loss: Call emergency services now, even if symptoms improve. These can be stroke signs.
- Chest pressure or pain with shortness of breath, sweating or lightheadedness: Call emergency services now for possible heart attack.
- A seizure lasting over 5 minutes, repeated seizures or trouble breathing afterward: Call emergency services now.
Who should avoid it
- pregnant: Precaution: no reliable pregnancy safety data for this peptide.
- breastfeeding: Precaution: transfer into milk and infant effects are unknown.
- tryingToConceive: Precaution: fertility and early-pregnancy effects are unknown.
- under18: Precaution: no reliable pediatric safety evidence was located.
- kidneyDisease: Clearance and dose adjustment in kidney disease are unknown.
- liverDisease: No liver-disease dose or safety study was located.
- testedAthlete: The 2026 S0 rule is expected to prohibit this unapproved substance at all times.
- seizureDisorder: Precaution: isolated neurons showed electrical effects. Safety in people with seizures has not been established.
- activeCancer: Cancer safety is unknown. Gene-expression and explant-growth experiments do not establish safety in tumors.
- autoimmuneDisease: Immune-cell signaling changes were seen in vitro; clinical effects in autoimmune disease are unknown.
Interactions
- Other brain-directed peptides or peptide mixtures: Co-use is reported, but interaction safety and added benefit have not been established. Cortexin is a different preparation.
- Antiseizure medicines: No human interaction study was located. Nerve-cell electrical effects do not show that it can replace seizure medicines.
Product quality risks
- No independent published market-testing study specific to this peptide was located.
- General peptide warnings describe wrong strength, wrong ingredients and microbial contamination.
- An online semaglutide study found low purity and endotoxin. This does not measure contamination in this peptide.
